Account recovery

Recover access to your Schwab 401(k)

Expected time to regain access: Same day (online) to 1-2 days (phone-based) · Emergency phone: 1-800-435-4000 (24/7)

Important — workplace vs retail

Schwab Workplace 401(k) plans live at workplace.schwab.com. Retail brokerage at client.schwab.com. They share underlying identity verification but have separate URLs and login forms.

1. Password reset

Start at: https://client.schwab.com/login/forgot-password

  1. Go to schwab.com → 'Log In' → 'Forgot Login ID/Password'
  2. Enter SSN + DOB + account number (last 4 OK)
  3. Email of record gets reset link within minutes
  4. If migrated from TD Ameritrade: use the new Schwab-format login, not legacy TDA

2. 2FA lost / phone deactivated

  1. Call 1-800-435-4000 (24/7) — Schwab has the fastest 2FA recovery in the industry
  2. Voice-print verification or knowledge-based questions (SSN, DOB, recent transaction details)
  3. Schwab Mobile two-factor can usually be reset in a single call

3. Email of record is your old work email

  1. Log in → 'Profile' → 'Update email' — requires identity verification on the new email
  2. If you can't log in at all: phone-based update after identity verification
